WWE Superstars Review- August 18th 2011

What better way to start off this blog than a WWE SUPERSTARS REVIEW?  On this show, we got an actual star on the show in Wade Barrett, who is fresh off of a victory over the Smackdown Money in the Bank briefcase holder Daniel Bryan at Summerslam, a squash match for the returning Brodus Clay, Santino Shenanigans and a Drew McIntyre sighting.  A good way to start off this blog so HERE WE GO~!

(Note: Why in the blue hell are top stars featured in the opening video for this show?  I know that an opening video involving the likes of Zack Ryder, Santino and Primo wouldn’t exactly set the world on fire but at least new fans would know what to expect on the show.  I’m pulling a Bryan Alvarez with this nitpick but it’s something HAD TO BE SAID~!)

Wade Barrett def. Trent Barreta

Solid match to open up Superstars.  Wade looked good in this match, just as he did against Daniel Bryan at Summerslam.  Barreta hit some high spots that got good reactions from the crowd, including a corkscrew flip onto Barrett while standing on the barricade.  Cool finish as well with Wade catching Barreta when he went for a Hurricanrana and lifted him into Wasteland position for the finish.  Pretty fun match that barely went over five minutes.  **3/4

An add for Night of Champions aired.

Brodus Clay killed Jose Vargas

Just a basic squash match that put Brodus Clay over as a complete beast.  Nothing really much more to say about this one.

Santino defeated Primo

Pretty fun match with the usual Santino comedy with some good wrestling mixed in.  Crowd was into it because of Santino and as usual, the crowd erupted for Santino’s Cobra, which is over huge.  Not on the level of the Barrett/Barreta match that opened the show but still fun.  **1/2

The Alberto Del Rio/Rey Mysterio match from Raw this week aired to take up time.

Zack Ryder defeated Drew McIntyre

Great main event to close the show, which seems to be the usual for every Superstars episode.  Crowd was solidly behind Ryder throughout the match and McIntyre still fails to connect with the crowd in any shape or form.  A good series of near falls towards the end pushed this match into three star territory and McIntyre was his usual good self, even if he less over than Alberto Del Rio.  ***

Overall, this was a fun show full of great wrestling.  All three matches ranged from fun to good and the squash match involving Brodus Clay made Clay looked like a beast which was their intention going in.
